Sarah Weintraub
1989- 2002

Bright, Beautiful, Loving

" Sarah wanted to roam rain forests, study gorillas and swim in the sea with the dolphins. She could run like the wind as a little girl and loved playing with her sister Kate, her best friend Laura, and her westie dog Dana. Her friends would tell you that Sarah was a funny girl who sang jazzy little ditties about almost anything, making you laugh all the time. She was a wonderful artist and enjoyed writing. Sarah was a whisper of joy to those who knew her -- we feel blessed to have her in our hearts. "

Written by, Sharon Pope and Rob Weintraub, Sarah's Parents.

SCHOOL SPOTLIGHT:

Council Rock School District
of Newtown, Pennsylvania

Thanks to the efforts of a local couple in memory of their daughter, the school district of Council Rock in Newtown, Pennsylvania has endorsed Alex's Lemonade Stand as a district wide project in all 16 of its schools.

Sharon Pope and Rob Weintraub lost their daughter, Sarah to cancer in 2002. Sarah was was diagnosed when she was 8 with an abdominal tumor that reoccurred twice. She died when she was almost 13 years old. Her doctor was Dr Michael Fisher at CHOP who worked hard to help her live her life to the fullest. She enjoyed attending Goodnoe Elementary in Council Rock School District and touched the lives of all who knew her.

The administrators, staff and students in the district have been busy planning and fundraising already– with lemonade stands at Back To School Nights, at lunchtime, at school activities, at recess in rooms and in communities.

In addition, the staff at the schools have contributed through Dress Down Days, with donations to dress down already totalling in the thousands!.

Many schools in the district are planning other events and including Alex's Lemonade Stand in every way possible. They are hosting school events that involve kids and staff dressing in yellow. One school put out yellow pinwheels in honor of Alex through Pinwheels for Peace. Another school has a yellow day planned including a lemonade walk through the surrounding neighborhood.

And there's more!.... Schools have placed lemon trees or a variation of posted lemons to honor donations in their schools. One elementary school even taught the kids to sing "Lemon Tree" by Peter, Paul and Mary.

As of January, Council Rock School District has already raised over $47,000 for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation to help fight childhood cancer.

But, wait! They are not finished yet... many students and schools plan to continue to raise funds and awareness throughout the school yearl.

This is remarkable, outstanding, and certainly inspiring.

Our heartfelt thanks to the extraordinary administration, staff, students, and families of Council Rock School District. YOU ROCK!

What a tribute to Alex and Sarah! We are so grateful to Sarah's parents for their generosity and dedication to helping Alex's Lemonade Stand find a cure for all children with cancer.
