Highlighting great events from across the country!
Brick, NJ - Good Hands Day Care |
 |
|
The children in the kindergarten class at Good Hands Day Care in Brick, NJ held an Alex's Lemonade Stand during the school's Family Fun Night. Each student helped paint the stand, create a sign or color a picture from your site to add to the stand. Each child came during the event to volunteer their time to help serve ice-cold lemonade to our families and friends. What an invaluable lesson learned. We helped other children who like Alex, are brave to fight against this disease. We also learned that no matter how young you are, you really can make a difference and do important things like our friend Alex did!! Our class is proud to donate $250.00 to carry on Alex's dream.

Lidgerwood, ND: Go For Bald Campaign |
 |
|
We have been doing stands for ALSF since 2004 and last summer was our biggest yet. We held a Go For Bald Campaign where myself and a friend auctioned of our hair to be shaved by the highest bidder. We also had a Dunk Tank, Coloring Contests, Face painting, and were in the local parade. We always hold a stand during National Lemonade Days, but our big event is always in July during our local Heritage Days Celebration is. Last year, during our big event we raised near $3500 total, including online fundraising. www.firstgiving.com/netiarichards, is the site I had and we actually have photos of us getting our heads shaved.
We already have planning in the works for this year too. So far we will have a stand in April, June and July, for the big one. It’s a family-oriented stand, but have many friends involved as well. Last year the whole community was involved. It has been a great experience and we are happy to a part of something so good.

The Wildomar Cub Scout Pack 332 hosted an Alex’s Lemonade Stand in honor of all children who have suffered from cancer at Marna O’Brien Park, 20505 Palomar Street on Saturday, March 15, 2008. In conjunction with the Wildomar Parks Annual Easter Egg Hunt, the event included a lemonade stand, lemonade pins and most especially, a memory board in which attendees were encouraged to post the names of children they know who have been touched by cancer. The scouts decided to host a lemonade stand because they care about kids and wanted to do something for other children their age.

Take a look at this beautiful Eli and Alex’s Lemonade stand. We will help raise Money to fight Childhood Cancer, as Alex did so gracefully. We will help continue her Dream. I had Pack 213 in Oxford, PA put this baby together, and dedicated it to our Son Eli at a Blue and Gold banquet last Saturday night. I had Eli and his big brother Austin come forward, and painted their Hands red. They then placed their hand print on the front as I dedicated the stand to Eli in front of 200 people. I explained Alex’s story, and asked them to stop whenever they saw an Alex’s lemonade stand, because we must fight this one cup at a time. Eli told me that he’s the captain of his Lemonade stand, and his big brother is the Manager.

Birthday Party Event - Port Washington, New York |
 |
|
For her 8th birthday, Maddie Tashlik of Port Washington, New York, asked her friends and family to celebrate by making a donation to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) in lieu of birthday presents. Maddie first learned about Alex's legacy while celebrating her birthday last year, after receiving Alex's book from friends Bari and Jack Zweben. We are so proud that Maddie chose ALSF for her birthday donations and that she has embraced the charitable spirit of giving to help other children! In total, she raised over a thousand dollars through her birthday "gifts," online fundraising and selling lemonade. Each time she handed a cup of lemonade to a patron, she thanked them for “helping many sick children.” We hope Maddie will inspire you to include ALSF in your charitable giving this year, whether for a birthday celebration, or any other way you choose to participate.

Solomon Schechter Day School, Boston, MA |

On Mitzvah Sunday, the community service day at the Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Boston, four simultaneous lemonade stands at different sites brought in $1335.77. Thirty-four members of school staffed the stands at the various sites and said their experience was exhilarating, moving and unforgettable.
It is probably hard to describe what a phenomenal experience this was. The folks at Star Market were unbelievable...every half hour they announced on the intercom that there was a fantastic fundraising opportunity, Alex's Lemonade Stand, just past the checkouts and to stop by. Employees came by repeatedly and bought lemonade. They provided the tables, the lemonade, the ice, everything. The manager came in even though it was his day off. Kids at our stand walked the aisles of the market passing out the Alex's tattoos and telling them to come to the stand to have it put on.
Thank you to all four of our locations who helped us raise this incredible amount of money: Star Market in Dedham MA, Stop & Shop, the Boston Sports Club in Wellesley, MA, and Healthpoint Sports Club.

Our school decided to make Alex's Lemonade Stand our charity for this school year. We felt this was a great charity for our school to contribute to since our school is a K-3 school of nearly 700 kids and we felt our students could relate to Alex's story. In the weeks leading up to the walk, many teachers read Alex's story in their classrooms. At one of our All School Meetings we told the students that we would be holding our Walk-A-Thon this year with our proceeds going to ALSF. Children brought in donations to "sponsor" their walk. As you can see we raised nearly $7,000.00! After two rain-outs we were able to hold our Walk-A-Thon on November 1st. Each child in the school walked a 1.4 mile course around the neighborhoods near our school. Even our Pre-Schoolers walked their own version of our Walk-A-Thon, holding a line and walking together. Our PTA was a huge help. Many moms were here helping give out lemon ice (of course) for the tired walkers. Several parents came to walk along and our school mascot, Dexter the Dragon, was on hand to cheer each class as they left on their walk. It was a great day.

Elizabeth, a mother of a neuroblastoma survivor, has been hosting an Alex's Lemonade Stands with her family during the summers since 2006. Elizabeth is an Elementary School Counselor at Sand Creek Elementary School in North Vernon IN and decided this year to bring ALSF to her school. Elizabeth started classroom guidance lessons about Alex and her mission on Jan. 14 and end on the 24th, visiting a total of 25 classrooms with about 450 students total.
Sand Creek's service project for ALSF consisted of:
-All classrooms made mini-stands to collect donations.
-Classroom lessons focused on Alex's story, how we've overcome our own lemony situations, ways we can help others, an activity (coloring sheet, butterfly hat) and a cup of lemonade for every student.
-Paper lemons were sold and hung throughout the school (we also sold a packet of pencils and pens) -Each student was given an ALSF bookmark or tattoo.
-Childhood cancer facts were shared during morning announcements.
-We raised $427.30 for ALSF! GREAT JOB SAND CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL!!

Featured Story: The Oropeza Family |

Manuel was a very strong man and believed his family was the most
important thing in the world. Manuel was fighting brain cancer. He
taught his daughters that giving back was very important. Manuel heard of Alex's Lemonade Stand on the television. He told his family of Alex's and his daughter, Malini, like her father, was interested in
helping kids with cancer.
They went to work to set up a lemonade stand. Manuel assisted Malini with the stand, but at times had to lay down in his truck to rest. Sadly, Manuel passed away in June 2007. But, Malini was left with a determination to continue her father's wish to fight childhood cancer. Malini will be holding another stand this year in honor on her father, Manuel. |

We are all part of the Delta Nu chapter of Gamma Sigma Sigma at the University of Maine in Orono, ME. Three members of our chapter(including myself) attended our national convention this past summer in Chicago(Gamma Sigma Sigma is a national service sorority). At the convention Liz Scott was honored as our Woman of the Year and she shared Alex's story and we were able to meet Liz as well. We were all deeply moved and decided right there that we wanted to start holding lemonade stands on campus. We brought the idea back to our chapter and everyone was very receptive. This was our first stand, but we plan on holding many more!
