A Million Miles for Aidan/Aidan’s Avengers

September 13, 2014

Aidan’s Avengers are going a million miles in memory of their hero Aidan Dunion as a part of this year’s Alex’s Million Mile – Run. Walk. Ride.

Ten months ago, 4 year old Aidan was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine Glioma (DIPG), a rare type of brain tumor located in the brainstem. When his family discovered the sad statistics regarding funding for pediatric cancer research, they were heartbroken. They wanted to take an active role in supporting childhood cancer research, which led them to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. They were even more excited that ALSF had helped to support the clinical trial that Aidan was involved in led by Dr. Jakacki at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

In April, the family held a lemonade stand at the local baseball opening day, which Aidan enjoyed and inspired others to donate. Sadly, on August 14, less than a year after he was diagnosed, Aidan lost his battle and passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. They are now more determined than ever to fight this monster and will do everything they can this September to get a step closer to finding a cure for all of the little superheroes.
