Bright and early Saturday, July 2, 2011 380 riders left the Buffalo Wild Wings in Independence, Mo. After a donut and a Starbucks coffee, riders followed each other to travel anywhere from 20-100 miles. There were 7 stops that were manned by volunteers who handed out Gatorade packets, water, and an assortment of food. The most popular stops were Sibley Orchard, La Bella Winery and the Casey’s in Higginsville. There were also several trucks that traveled the route to help bikers with flat tires or needed a ride back because of the heat. After riders finished their chosen route, many stayed and had free wings at Buffalo Wild Wings. The Freedom Ride raised nearly $14,000 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and LIVESTRONG. It was a great event for everyone involved. We look forward to planning the 2012 Freedom Ride!
