More than 1,200 guests came out to feast on delectable dishes and raise money for kids at the Great Chefs Event 2014, held at Urban Outfitters at the Navy Yard on June 10, 2014. The night of fun and fundraising raised just over $750,000 to benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and the Vetri Foundation for Children!
Guests grazed on small-plate specialties prepared by 43 great chefs from around the country while Alicia Vitarelli, an anchor for 6ABC, and Marc Summers, a longtime supporter and board member of ALSF, emceed the evening.
Liz and Jay Scott, parents of Alexandra “Alex” Scott, and co-Executive Directors of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, spoke about their daughter and the Foundation that evolved from her front yard lemonade stands. Liz noted that if Alex were diagnosed with cancer today, there would be more options available for treating her thanks in part to research advancements made possible from projects funded by the Foundation. School District of Philadelphia Superintendent Dr. William R. Hite, Jr. spoke about the Vetri Foundation and the importance of their work to support healthy eating habits in children.
Guests bid on exclusive silent and live auction items including a culinary tour of Italy with Chef Rocco Whalen, Chef Jeff Michaud and Jeff Benjamin, which went for $24,000. Other auction items included a private dinner party in Vetri’s private room with guest Chef Bobby Flay and a party for 50 featuring food from Alla Spina and Big Gay Ice Cream. Thank you to everyone who supported the event!
