K12 Lemonade Days FAQ

What is Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation?

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $50 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 200 pediatric cancer research projects nationally.

When can I hold my lemonade stand?

K12’s Operation Lemonade will take place throughout the entire month of June! In the past, K12’s efforts have been largely devoted to one weekend, but this year, you can have a lemonade stand at any point in the month of June as part of the program. We will also provide you with weekly updates so you can see how much money has been raised and how many stands have been held thanks to the students and families of K12. To date, K12’s efforts have raised more than $180,000, and you can be part of making this year the best one yet!

What will I receive for my lemonade stand?

All K12 families who register to hold a lemonade stand will receive a fundraising kit. This kit consists of some helpful materials to use for your lemonade stand event including a 2 X 3 ft ALSF banner, a childhood cancer poster, thank you notes, a checks payable sign, childhood cancer facts, adult and child talking points, a return envelope for proceeds, and more!

In addition to materials, you will be assigned a fundraising coach who can help you make your stand a success by providing tips, a letter of support to collect donations and anything else you might need. Upon registering, a fundraising webpage is automatically created for you that you can customize and accept online donations from people who may not be able to attend your event.

Can people write checks when they want to donate?

Absolutely! All donors that write checks receive a thank you note and receipt from us. As part of your kit you will receive a checks payable sign, reminding donors that all checks should be made payable to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.

How do I send in the donations?

All donations should be mailed in the form of check or money order to:

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation
333 East Lancaster Avenue, #414
Wynnewood, PA 19096

Please make sure your Event ID number is clearly marked on the check, so we can thank you and K12 for all the money you raise!

Can I print my own banner or sign using your logos?

Yes, we encourage stand hosts to design their own banners, fliers or signs and to incorporate our logos. We also have a number of materials available for your use by clicking the Downloads button located on the left side of your webpage.

How much should I charge for lemonade?

We encourage you to not set a price for lemonade, but instead suggest to visitors that they give a donation of any amount. If someone asks, “how much for a cup of lemonade?” you can respond, “you can give whatever you would like to donate for children with cancer.” This will encourage generosity and allow those who may not have money to enjoy a cup of lemonade and learn about Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and childhood cancer. Some locations may require or be better suited for setting a price for a cup of lemonade, in that case, designate a price that seems appropriate.
