When life gives you downpours, make… lemonade of course! In spite of an ominous weather forecast to start the day, the sun emerged to further brighten the Second Annual L.A. Loves Alex’s Lemonade Event on Sunday, November 6, 2011. The day was a drenching success raising more than $400,000 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and the battle against childhood cancer.
The event took over the lawn of the historic Culver Studios Mansion as more than 1,000 guests sampled the creations of award-winning chefs and mixologists. Hosts Chef Suzanne Goin, business partner Caroline Styne (Lucques, AOC, Tavern), and Chef David Lentz (The Hungry Cat) were joined by a number of culinary all-stars from around the country to support the vision of Alexandra “Alex” Scott. In addition to celebrity chefs, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka lent their support as honorary hosts, Jimmy Kimmel entertained the crowd as emcee.
Perhaps one of the highlights of the event was an all-out bidding war for an item during the live auction –dinner for 12 provided by a group of elite women chefs. After much back and forth, narrated by auctioneer Viveca Paulin-Ferrell, the winning bid was a record-breaking $61,000 – truly a testament to the caliber of talent as well as the generosity of attendees.
