In 2000, our founder, 4-year-old Alex Scott held her first lemonade stand to raise money to find a cure for kids with cancer--while bravely battling her own. Alex raised an astonishing $2,000 at her first stand and set in motion what would become a national movement to fight childhood cancer, one cup at a time! Since that time, thousands of volunteers, including many parents, teachers and students, have been inspired by her example and held Alex’s Lemonade Stands of their own. You can too!

Here’s a checklist of simple steps to follow to get your school’s Alex's Lemonade Stand up and running, and make it a success:

  1. Pick a date and place: Choose a day and location to hold your Alex's Lemonade Stand. Will it take place somewhere in your school or at an outside location? Sometimes businesses will allow students to hold lemonade stands at their location. Check with your school to make sure there are not other fundraisers or conflicting events on this date.

  2. Register your stand or event: Click on Register Now and register your lemonade stand. You’ll create a personal fundraising page when you register. We will also send you a packet of materials if you choose this option during registration. In addition, one of our personal fundraising coaches will be in touch to help you with questions and planning!

  3. Plan your stand/event: Make a list of supplies you’ll need, and start making a list of things to do. (This is a great activity to involve students of all ages in. You can even follow it up with a persuasive writing campaign to obtain needed supplies.)

  4. Ask people to donate: Have students, parents and other participants reach out to community members to share what your class is doing. This might include putting out coin collection jars, writing letters requesting donations or sharing information about your fundraising page on social media sources, such as Facebook and Twitter. Remember, students as young as pre-school take pride in asking people to help them raise money for other children!

  5. Make it a success: For more tips on hosting a lemonade stand, take a look at our Hold Your Own Stand Packet. This will lead you step by step through the process. Still need additional materials? Visit our School Downloads section for signs, fact sheets and more!

  6. Hold your stand: Hold your Alex's Lemonade Stand on the date planned. Be sure to let your visitors know that you can accept checks made payable to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation!

  7. Send in your donations: Once your stand is over, send your donations to our offices with your Event ID labeled on the check. We’ll update your personal fundraising page with your donation total.

All donations should be sent to:

    Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation
    333 East Lancaster Avenue #414
    Wynnewood, PA 19096

  8. Thank your supporters: Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation will thank donors who donate online or by check provided we have their contact information. However, a personal “thank you” from students to your donors is always a nice touch. We’ve included a sample thank-you letter in the Downloads section.

  9. Be proud: Your school’s efforts have allowed us to get one step closer to a cure for all children with childhood cancers!
