Riva is a very social girl. She is always smiling and laughing, and enjoys the company of other kids. Riva is a happy toddler, and likes taking stroller rides, listening to music and reading books.

Riva was diagnosed on Valentine's Day 2015. When Riva’s mom found a lump on Riva’s abdomen, the family went to the pediatrician, and Riva was then scheduled for a same-day ultrasound. That evening, Riva’s pediatrician called to deliver the terrifying news that Riva’s lump was actually a cancerous tumor, and the family was immediately sent to Children’s Hospital. At the hospital, Riva underwent a CT, as well as several other scans and a biopsy, which together revealed Stage 4 Neuroblastoma with tumors all over her body. Riva was also diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder called Opsoclonus Myoclonus Syndrome, which occurs in only 1 in 10 million people every year. As of February 2016, Riva has been in remission for cancer for 7 months, but is still in treatment for OMS.

Although she is so young, Riva has taught her parents how to keep smiling, even in difficult times. Riva remains positive, and her doctors and nurses are always amazed at Riva’s cheerful nature. Her parents report that they are very proud of their strong daughter. Riva’s parents hope to impress on other parents that while childhood cancer “is a tough journey, it's bearable if you have the support from your family and friends.”

In March 2017, Riva's momn reported that Riva is doing well and has been in remission for cancer 1.5 years and for OMS 1year now. She recently turned 3 and has started in home preschool due to her compromised immune system. She continues to recieve PT, OT and speech therapy every week to help her catch up.
