Over 3,000 students from Kindergarten to 12th Grade from across the country will connect using high tech videoconference and networking technology to kick off their Virtual Alex’s Lemonade Stand Project, a national community service event to help fight pediatric cancer.

More than 30 schools will participate in the two week project, which kicks off with a videoconference rally hosted by students from Cynwyd Elementary School and features Liz Scott, Alex’s mom, and Carly Hillman, Alex’s friend and childhood cancer survivor. Following the kick-off, students will take the initiative into their communities to raise awareness and support for childhood cancer research by holding lemonade stands and other events. Throughout the two weeks, students involved will collaborate with each other through an online blog, song writing, special video projects, poetry contests and a lemonade stand poster contest.

The two-week event will culminate in a celebratory multi-site videoconference on April 24, 2008 with special guest speaker Larry Mendte. The final event will provide an interactive platform for students to share their experiences and project accomplishments with peers from different regions of the U.S.
