On September 18th I am holding an event to help spread awareness for Childhood Cancer Month. My son Ethan was diagnosed with a grade 3 anaplastic Ependymoma on his brain stem, August 3, 2012. What is that you may ask? It is a malignant brain tumor that has a very high percentage of recurrence along with no real cure but to remove it and to undergo radiation. A whole new world was opened to us and our lives have never been the same since his diagnosis. As a parent now of a child who will always have this horrible disease that will always be lingering around the corner; I have come to realize how little funding their is for research to find a cure. Only 4% of the money raised through the American Cancer Society actually goes towards childhood cancers. That is nothing really, so it is up to us parents to not only take care of our dying or sick children, but to also raise the funding to save them. If we brought awareness for these children then the funding will also come but right now childhood cancer is something that people, organization, and businesses are afraid to promote. September and the gold ribbon needs to be just as big as October is for breast cancer. Help me spread awareness and gold for our children and for our future.
