Welcome to Team Claire (and Keene) 2014! Thank you for continuing to support us and the childhood cancer community by donating and/or participating in the Lemon Run! This is our 5th year as a Team Claire and we are on target to have raised more than $10,000 total!
We certainly can see that a few years makes a big difference. The picture on the left seems like a lifetime ago, yet I remember it like it was yesterday. In case you're not sure why you should donate, let's look at what Claire accomplished during her 2 1/2 years of treatment:
95+ IV chemo days in clinic or hospital
22 lumbar punctures with sedation
6 bone marrow biopsies
2 port surgeries
150 CBCs
PET scans, MRIs, ECHOs, and X-rays
32 chemo Sub-q shots
100+ inpatient nights
12 red blood cell transfusions
5 platelet transfusions
600 doses of nightly, at-home chemo
150 doses of weekly, at-home chemo
156 Steroid Days
6 episodes of Emergence Delirium
10 months of baldness
And we were lucky. Very lucky. Lucky to have a treatment plan that works. Lucky to be 20 minutes from the best pediatric cancer hospital in the world. Lucky to be in the same town as Alex's Lemonade Stand. But, wouldn't it be wonderful if there was a treatment plan that worked for all kids? Wouldn't it be wonderful if it could be just 2 or 3 months instead of 2 or 3 years? I think that was Alex's goal all along.
