Hi Everyone! Many of you know that I have run in all sorts of different events and races over the years. It is with great pride that I am running the Avengers Super Hero Half Marathon for Alex's Lemonade Stand to continue the incredible work that Alex Scott started.
If you’re not aware, Alex Scott, an entrepreneurial 4-year old battling neuroblastoma, held her first lemonade stand in 2000 to raise money to benefit childhood cancer research. Although Alex passed away in 2004, her family and supporters around the world stayed committed to continuing her inspiring legacy. ALSF is dedicated to realizing Alex's dream of eradicating childhood cancer.
ALSF’s mission:
• To raise money and awareness of childhood cancer causes, primarily research into new treatments and cures.
• To encourage and empower others, especially children, to get involved and make a difference for children with cancer.
To date, ALSF has raised more than $80 million and funded over 450 research projects towards the goal of putting an end to childhood cancer. I am honored to continue and be a part of this legacy.
I am running for Alex's Lemonade Stand because I was inspired by the incredible work that Alex Scott started. Alex Scott at age 4 was able to do what is seemingly impossible. At 4 years old she was able to not only understand that she had cancer (or some understanding) but wanted to raise money to fight it. Her courage and understanding and bravery are inspiring to me. What would Alex Scott think if she was alive today? How overwhelmed would she be if she knew that her Lemonade Stand had blossomed into the organization it is today; that it mobilizes thousands of people through grass roots efforts to continue what she started.
It was inspiration that brought me to start running. Inspiration from my Dad, my Mom, my sister Dara, and my friend Liz. And it is with inspiration and a tremendous sense of purpose that I run for this wonderful organization.
The theme of the half marathon is Super Heroes. Alex Scott's strength, courage and bravery were not only inspirational, they are heroic. She was indeed a Super Hero and someone I am incredibly proud to honor.
Every mile I run will be a step toward a cure for childhood cancer, but I can't do it without your help! Any amount helps.
