When
Dear Friends,
As you may know, each year I run to fundraise and advocate for childhood cancer in my Dad's memory. My Dad loved kids and made sure my sister and I had a magical childhood growing up. When my dad passed away, after a courageous battle with cancer, I looked for a way to honour his memory, which is when I came across a brave little girl named Alex Scott. Alexandra Scott was diagnosed with neuroblastoma before her first birthday and while being treated in the hospital informed her mother, "when I get out of the hospital I want to have a lemonade stand." She said she wanted to give the money to doctors to allow them to "help other kids, like they helped me." True to her word, she held her first lemonade stand later that year with the help of her older brother and raised an amazing $2,000 for "her hospital." In August of 2004, Alex passed away at the age of 8, knowing that, with the help of others, she had raised more than $1 million to help find a cure for the disease that took her life.
This year I have decided to run the NYC marathon in my Dad's memory and in honor of all the amazing kids and families I have met over the years who have blown me away by their courage. My goal is to raise $8000 to fund the best childhood cancer research, which sadly remains heavily underfunded.
Please consider a donation to help me reach my goal and ensure a future for all our kids without cancer.
Thank you so much for your continued support!
With Gratitude,
Mel
