Alexandra "Alex" Scott, a young cancer patient, was only 4 years old when she decided to hold a lemonade stand to raise money for "her hospital," so doctors could help other kids like they'd helped her. Alex held her first stand in 2000 and continued to hold lemonade stands each year, inspiring support from her community and across the nation. Although Alex passed away at the age of 8, she knew she had reached the ambitious goal of raising $1 million for childhood cancer research.
Today, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation raises money to help families remain by their kids' sides while they go through cancer treatment. ALSF has also funded more than 500 cutting-edge research projects.
I'm running the Philadelphia Half Marathon with Alex's Lemonade Stand because it's a great organization that's doing all it can to speed up progress in finding a cure, and helping families who have to deal with this awful disease along the way.
It's true that every little bit helps. Here's how your donation can make a difference:
-$15 can provide a gas card for a family to drive to the hospital for treatment.
-$50 can fund an hour of research.
-$100 can put a family in a hotel room overnight to be near their child who's receiving treatment.
-$400 can fund a whole day of research.
I've set my goal at $2000: enough to fund a week of research. I hope I can do even better. I hope you'll consider joining me. Thank you for your support!
