I'm participating in Alex's Million Mile to help move us closer to finding a cure for all children with cancer! You can join me or donate to my page!
I am doing this not only for my daughter Paige, who is currently in treatment for Stage 2A Hodgkins Lymphoma, but for other children and families I have known that are affected by this, and the countless ones that I don't know. Cassie is a ALL Survivor, Matthew is currently fighting B-Lymphoblastic Leukemia, and Max who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on 1/17/16. He is only 4 years old. He started chemo treatments on 1/20/16 and prognosis looks good so far. He's a fighter and has an amazing community of support rallying behind him! Alonso is now 4 years old, and was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia at 18 months of age. He had his last chemotherapy in 2014 and is not currently in treatment, but his disease is under control.
We are remembering, Dante who was taken much too soon after bravely fighting Stage IV Neuroblastoma at only 2 years old.
So far, Paige has seen 16 chemotherapy treatments with 5 different drugs, 3 hospital stays, 3 blood transfusions, 1 ambulance ride, 14 raditaion treatments, 2 PET scans in Toronto, countless CT's, Xrays and varied diagnostic tests and 128 days in her fight against cancer. And she has gotten off "easy". Other kids have years in their fight, months in the hospital, surgeries, out of town procedures, feeding tubes and more.
It doens't end when they are well either. The long term effects will still be there. The permanent effects of surgery, lung or heart function, scars; their emotional wellbeing might take a hit. They may never have their own children. They may have a recurrence, or develop a new cancer. They may not live to see the long term effects at all.
When you donate to this cause, you are contributing to hope. You are contributing to a better quality of life, a longer life. You are helping ease the burden of an illness on a family by supporting more efficient and effective treatments. And you are spreading the awareness so other people can help.
These warriors are heros. And you can be a hero too.
Thanks for your support, it means everything to families affected by this horrible disease <3
