On March 13th, 2010 old friends from as far away as Texas and Scotland will gather in Nashville, TN to run a half marathon in honor of friend, political activist, dancer, and celebrated mime artist Mikael Rudolph. Team "Mime Over Matter" consists of life-long friends and high school buddies Dr. Watt Lesley Black, principal of Blalack Middle School in Carrollton, Texas; Dr. Wesley Milner, Director of International Studies at the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana; and host Donal Hinely, musician and songwriter in Nashville. The three grew up together in Denton, Texas, graduating from Denton High School in 1982. Also running with TMOM is Susan Milner and friends Fiona McKenzie and Brendan Brodie from Edinburgh, Scotland.
Mikael is currently fighting his second bout with cancer. An original artist and entertainer, Mikael has delighted children and adults alike for more than 3 decades. He has received many critical accolades for his work, including mentor Marcel Marceau who said: "In this style...he is a master. It could not have been done any better." Mikael's approach to mime is mesmerizing, unconventional, and very, very funny. Mikael personally chose Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, a fitting testimony to a long devotion to making kids laugh.
A few members of Team Mime Over Matter have run half marathons before, and some are embarking on this endeavor for the first time. Training has been a wake up call for 46 year old bodies. But regardless of level or ability, all of us share a certain gratefulness to be able to participate in something larger than ourselves. Please honor Mikael Rudolph with us and consider a donation to help in the fight against children's cancer! Thank you.
