The Baxter Stand is the collective effort of three families who have each personally been touched by childhood cancer Brad and Lorie Lower's daughter, Louise, was diagnosed with neuroblastoma shortly after her 4th birthday. Louise underwent surgery at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC shortly after her diagnosis. After seven years Louise remains cancer free.
In the third year of holding their lemonade stand, the Lowers met Jeff and Heather Lux, whose son Austin, had also been diagnosed with neuroblastoma. Austin received a combination of treatments in Boston, MA and continues to do well.
Prior to the 2007 stand, Scott and Jennifer DeNobile met the Luxes and the Lowers and shared their story of their son, Vincent. Vincent, too had been diagnosed with neuroblastoma at the age of 13 months and after a successful surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New York is cancer free after four years.
The story of these three youngsters with similar stories living in such close proximity is uncanny. The fact that Louise, Austin, and Vincent are all healthy is nothing short of miraculous.
