BRETT STAINO
“LITTLE ANGEL BRETT”

On December 23, 2006, Jeff and Shannon Staino gave birth to a beautiful and healthy little boy named Brett. Brett was born into this world full of love, life and so much character. Now, at less than two years old, Brett has fought the fight of his life. On March 28, 2008, Brett was diagnosed with Stage 3 Wilm's Tumor, which is a form of pediatric cancer. Brett has completed twenty five weeks of chemotherapy, transfusions as needed, six radiation treatments, surgery to remove his right kidney and several infected lymphnodes which were full of tumor and surgery unfortunately brought on another complication that caused Brett to be on a feeding tube for over a month and nonfat foods for another month following. The family had spent about three full months out of four in Children’s Hospital. At such a young age, Brett still manages to be his playful self and just builds more and more of a personality everyday. He’s a favorite with the staff at CHOP as well as the Voorhees clinic where he receives his monitoring. There’s still a long road ahead where Brett will continue with testing and monitoring until age 8. With all the continued love and support of family and friends, he will persevere and always be our little angel!

This experience has opened our eyes to just how real and close to home childhood cancer has become. Along side of Alex's Lemonade Foundation, we hope to bring awareness to the public of just how vulnerable our children are to this beast. We also hope to bring funding and support for further research on childhood cancer in a hope to one day put an end to this horrible disease.
