People we did it!
The community near and FAR came together to raise $10,000 for pediatric cancer research! At around 6pm, on air we gave a final count of 9360 but then Jim's sister decided to donate $640, to make it a clean $10,000! This was a very tough year to make the goal, recession recession recession. We had more people stop by the stand then ever this year!
A lot of people came by and dropped a few dollars, new to the stand of course. But many people gave $20, and you know they didn't have it, but they did it anyway. This was a true grassroots effort. We have a committee now! LOL Thank you to all the volunteers, new and old, without you it would be tiny, still wonderful but not the dream. One cup at a time, and in some instances, no cups, just talking, remembering, learning.
We are so proud of each of you. You work so hard on this day, some of you 6 months of hard work! It was wonderful to meet your brother and his family Gillian! *Gillian is from the foundation, worked like crazy for us generating the PR! I wanted to talk longer but was being pulled to give the final count on the radio. People drove from LA and Long Beach to be with us.
There are many faces out there that we touch without knowing. If you have watched the videos or read the bios on www.alexslemonade.org you will see just a fraction of the children you are helping to make a difference for. You do make a difference.
We love you!
Miller Tribe
Our family began holding our annual Alex's Lemonade Stand in 2006 after hearing Alex's story at a play date. Alex has brought our family, friends, neighbors, and community together for the past four summers to join in the fight against childhood cancer. Each year our stand has grown, and we plan to continue raising funds and awareness of the deadly disease for years to come. We feel it is important to set an example and show our children ways to give back to our community.
Our local radio station FM 94.9 has helped us immensely through the years. FM 94.9 shares our support for Alex's Lemonade Stand by doing a live broadcast at our stand each year!
