Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer

Kansas City, MO (JULY 2011) – Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation will host the very first Lemon Run Kansas City  5K Run/Walk and Kids’ Dash, on Sunday, October  2, 2011 at 8:30AM at Waterfall Park, 4501 South Bass Pro Drive in Independence, Missouri . The event will bring together athletes of all calibers, community members, childhood cancer heroes and all supporters of the battle against childhood cancer for a fun-filled morning to raise funds and awareness.  Participants are encouraged to register in advance, but can also register on the day of the event.

Running enthusiasts will join walkers, young children and all supporters of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation at the event. The run and walk fee for those who register in advance is $25 per person, and the kids’ dash (under 12 years) is $10 per child if registered by October 1, 2011. Registration the day of event is $30 and $15 respectively. Those participants who want to start their own team to honor a cancer fighter or to create team unity are encouraged to do so. For those who will not be running or walking, attendees are encouraged to come out to cheer on the childhood cancer heroes as they start the race.

“Each year we have been thrilled by the growth of the foundation’s first 5K run/walk, The Lemon Run,” said Jay Scott, father of foundation creator Alexandra “Alex” Scott. “We are thrilled to bring this race to an area that has supported the efforts of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation since 2004. The inaugural Lemon Run Kansas City is sure to be a success with the Greater Kansas City Community getting behind it.”

The day’s festivities will also include various forms of entertainment, music and guest speakers. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers of various age groups. Check in the day of the event begins at 7AM; the kids’ dash will start at 8AM.  The 5K Run/Walk will begin at 8:30AM.

In addition to the actual event, those who wish to participate, but who are not in the Greater Kansas City area, can run or walk where they live. By registering as a virtual runner or walker on www.AlexsLemonade.org/Lemon-Run-Kansas-City, and completing a 5K run/walk on October 2, 2011, runners and walkers across the country and world can participate too.  Virtual participants are not eligible for timed race prizes, but do qualify for the fundraising contest and t-shirt if they register before the day of the event.  Prizes will be awarded to the top individual and team fundraisers.
