Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer

Program encourages participants to collect spare change to contribute to the battle against childhood cancer during the 2011 holiday season

Philadelphia, PA (November 2011) – Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to finding a cure for all kids with cancer, has introduced a new fundraising program for the 2011 holiday season appropriately entitled Seasons of Change. The program provides a fun and easy way for participants of all ages to give back this holiday season by simply collecting spare change. During the season when many gifts are exchanged, Seasons of Change encourages children, families, coworkers and individuals to give the gift of hope in the battle against childhood cancer by simply filling lemonade cups with change.

Coinciding with the holiday season, Seasons of Change will invite participants to collect loose change on their desk at work, with their family at home, or even through competitions with friends to contribute to finding better treatments and ultimately cures for all kids with cancer. The steps to participating are easy: register the fundraiser on the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation website and participants will be sent cups and lids, a guide with instructions and helpful tips, brochures to share with those who donate and a collection envelope to send in a check or money order at the end of the fundraising drive. From there, participants simply collect as many coins as needed to fill up their cup and then send in the proceeds. The program follows in the footsteps of Foundation creator Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1994-2004), who believed that everyone was capable of making a change, no matter the amount they were able to give.

“With the winter months not providing the ideal weather for lemonade stands, we thought what better time than the holidays to give back in a small way that could make a big difference,” said Liz Scott, Alex’s mom.  “We felt that the simple act of collecting change fit well with Alex’s inspiring message and allowed our dedicated supporters to continue their support throughout the year. The weather outside may be cold, but continuing to contribute to the battle against childhood cancer in the winter will certainly keep our hearts warm.”

In addition to the Seasons of Change program designed for the winter months, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation also recently introduced Change Childhood Cancer, a service learning program for students of all ages. Through the lesson plans and activities provided, participating students and their classmates work to fill lemonade cups with change that will then be donated to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and the battle against childhood cancer.
