San Diego, CA (JULY 2011) – Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and Max’s Ring of Fire (MROF) will team up for the first time to host the MROF Lemon Run 4.6 Mile Run/Walk and Family Fun Run, on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at 8AM. The event, which will take place at Lake Miramar in Scripps Ranch, will bring together athletes of all calibers to run or walk the lake’s full distance of 4.6 miles in honor of the 46 children who are diagnosed with childhood cancer each weekday. Last year, MROF hosted their first run before joining forces with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for the 2011 event.
Running enthusiasts and all supporters of the battle against childhood cancer are invited to participate or attend the event to help both foundations in their quest for better treatments and cures. The run and walk fee is $30 per person, and the family fun run is $15 per participant by August 25, 2011. All participants must register in advance. Those participants who want to start their own team to honor a cancer fighter or to create team unity are encouraged to do so. As an added incentive to register early, those who register by August 25, 2011 will be guaranteed a limited edition long sleeved MROF Lemon Run t-shirt.
“Each year we have been thrilled by the growth of the foundation’s race, The Lemon Run,” said Jay Scott, father of foundation creator Alexandra “Alex” Scott. “We couldn’t be more pleased to team up with Max’s Ring of Fire to bring the Lemon Run to San Diego for the very first time. Our mission is well-aligned to that of Max’s Ring of Fire - to help find a cure for neuroblastoma and all childhood cancers.”
“Last year, we held the first Max Run and were thrilled to not only sell out, but to raise funds beyond our expectations,” said Andy Mikulak, father of Max, the inspiration for MROF. “However, we also wanted to make the run bigger and make it THE childhood cancer event taking place in San Diego during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September. It felt like a natural to partner with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, whom we have always respected and admired.”
The day’s festivities will also include various forms of entertainment, music and guest speakers. Awards will be given to the fastest male and female runners in various age groups and to all children registered in the one mile race. Check in the day of the event begins at 7AM; the family fun run will start at 8AM. The 5K Run/Walk will begin at 8:30AM.
In addition to the actual event, those who wish to participate, but are not in the San Diego area can run or walk where they live. By registering as a virtual runner or walker on www.AlexsLemonade.org/MROF-Lemon-Run and completing a 4.6 mile run/walk on September 25, runners and walkers across the country and world can participate too. Virtual participants are not eligible for timed race prizes, but do qualify for the fundraising contest and t-shirt if they register before August 25, 2011. Prizes will be awarded to the top individual and team fundraisers.
