Cyclist on 10,000-mile Trek to Fight Childhood Cancer

The bicyclist making his way through Western Massachusetts Monday morning was far from home but supporting an effort close to his heart.

Ken Bettencourt, of Bend, Oregon, was on Route 20 as part of a 10,000-mile trek to raise money for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, which finances research into childhood cancer. It is named for Alexandra Scott, who in 2000 at age 4, while battling neuroblastoma, told her parents she wanted to start a lemonade stand to raise money to help fight cancer in children, according to the foundation. While Alex died in 2004, the foundation has raised more than $1 million.
