As a preview to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation’s annual gala celebration, The Lemon Ball, Govberg Jewelers will host a very special preview party at G, on Wednesday, December 9, 6:30PM, 111 South 17th Street, Philadelphia, PA. The Preview Party serves as an evening to create excitement for the gala, unveiling silent and live auction items and raffle prizes, including a 6.5 carat diamond tennis bracelet donated by Govberg Jewelers. The festivities will include specialty cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and much more. Approximately 100 guests are expected from the Main Line and Center City.
In addition to Liz and Jay Scott, Alex’s parents, speaking at 7:45PM, one of Alex’s childhood friends and cancer survivor Carly Hillman will also provide remarks. Jim Bugden, CEO of myYearbook.com, who was the highest bidder on a very special painting done by Alex herself at last year’s gala, will present it back to the foundation and speak about how much having it in his offices over the last year has meant.
The 4th Annual Lemon Ball, presented by Volvo, is slated for Saturday, January 9, 2010 at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown. The evening honors those who have shown a commitment to the Foundation and the battle against childhood cancer. This year’s Alex Scott Crystal Cup recipients are Jano Cohen & Jeremy Nowak. Past recipients of the award include the Owners and Trainer of The Preakness & Belmont Stakes winning thoroughbred Afleet Alex (2009); Tracy Smith (2008) of CBS News; and Billy King (2007), Former General Manager of The Philadelphia 76ers.
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). At the age of 4, Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of volunteers across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $25 million towards fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 100 research projects nationally.
