Silas Martin, the Decatur teenager who moved hearts with his courage and generous spirit, was repaid in kind Sunday afternoon when dozens of dancers got moving for him.

They gathered in a roped-off section of Blain's Farm & Fleet parking lot, where a dance crash course was taught by Mount Zion-based choreographer Benjamin W.H. Garrett, 28. He stood in the back of an open semitruck trailer and the crowd followed him as best they could, getting down to the 2014 hit “Uptown Funk!”

A video of the dance will be submitted to the Ellen DeGeneres show, which has rewarded touching videos for good causes with prizes up to $50,000. Sunday's dance was only one in a series of events in a three-day fundraiser called “The Spirit of Silas Memorial Ride” that collected money for the charity “Alex's Lemonade Stand.” The charity funds childhood cancer treatment and research.
