Jersey City 9-year-old Fights Cancer One Cup of Lemonade at a Time

For the sixth year in a row, city resident Kayla Morales, 9, on Saturday served up lemonade at the Newport Centre Mall to help fight childhood cancer.

With the help of some of her friends, Kayla hosted the stand as part of the national Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, which was started in 2000 in honor of Alexandra Scott, a Connecticut girl who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a form of childhood cancer, before her first birthday. She died in 2004 at just 8 years old.

"It is a big challenge and I am excited to raise awareness of just how serious the epidemic of childhood cancer is," Kayla wrote on the Facebook page that her mom help set up.
