Local Youths Support Mission of Alex’s Lemonade Stand

Local families and students raised funds to support research into childhood cancers as part of the national campaign spearheaded by Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to helping find cures for children diagnosed with cancer.

During the three-day event, volunteers from across the country host lemonade stands to raise funds and help bring attention to the fight against childhood cancer — a fight that affects more than 12,000 children in the United States annually.

Eatontown’s Maggie Gaal held her 10th Alex’s Lemonade Stand since she was diagnosed. The Gaal family was chosen as the Hero Family State Representatives for the national fundraising weekend held June 12- 14. Jeff Gaal said his daughter was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer, in 2006 at just 9 years old.
