ALEX’S LEMONADE STAND FOUNDATION HOSTS 10TH ANNUAL LEMON BALL SATURDAY, JANUARY 16, 2016

Foundation’s annual gala celebration celebrates life and legacy of founder Alexandra “Alex” Scott and this year honors a World Series champion and 11 year-old Bryn Mawr girl battling cancer

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a nonprofit dedicated to finding cures for all kids with cancer, will host the Tenth Annual Lemon Ball, presented by Applebee’s, Northwestern Mutual, Toys“R”Us, and Volvo on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 6:30pm at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, 1201 Market Street.

The Lemon Ball is an evening of cocktails, dinner, raffle, silent and live auctions and entertainment bringing together supporters of the Foundation’s mission – a cure for all kids with cancer. Liz and Jay Scott, the parents of the late Alex Scott, will co-chair the gala with Susan and Robert Stein. Last year’s Lemon Ball raised more than $1 million.

The evening will also feature the presentation of the Stand Host of the Year Award to Maya Rigler, of Bryn Mawr, PA. Maya became involved with ALSF after being diagnosed with a Wilms’ tumor at age 2 and recovering fully. In January 2015, she was diagnosed with a different and unrelated type of cancer, Ewing’s sarcoma, which Maya refers to as “Bob the Blob.” Maya is well on her way to reaching her $250,000 fundraising goal for ALSF and “squashing Bob the Blob.”

The Foundation’s Volunteer of the Year Award will go to Alex Gordon, a 2015 World Series Champion with the Kansas City Royals. Alex has donated his time each year to help raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research with ALSF by hosting the “Alex Gordon Classic” and making special appearances at events and lemonade stands. He also starred in a Foundation PSA, which aired exclusively in the Kansas City region.

The Alex Scott Crystal Cup will go to presenting sponsor Volvo. Volvo is a founding sponsor, who helped Alex reach her goal of $1 million dollars to fight pediatric cancer before she passed away. Volvo has continued to support ALSF through key sponsorship of several fundraising initiatives throughout the year, including the Lemon Ball. They’ve also helped keep the inspiration and legacy of Alex alive with the Alexandra Scott Butterfly Award, an award given to an exceptional child hero.
