Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation Hosts Inaugural Striking Out Childhood Cancer Event

Bowling Event to Raise Funds for Childhood Cancer Research in Memory of Local Fighter C.J. Banaszek

In celebration of the life and to commemorate the birthday of local pediatric cancer fighter C.J. Banaszek, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) will host the first Striking Out Childhood Cancer event on Sunday, October 18, 2015 from 1-7pm at AMF Boulevard Lanes. The Foundation, which works to raise funds for childhood cancer research, treatments and support services, hopes to move one step closer to a cure by sharing C.J.’s story during the inaugural “birthday bowling bash.”

Remembered as a humorous and hopeful hero, C.J.—who was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia at the age of 11—possessed the level of strength and positivity that ALSF founder Alexandra “Alex” Scott was also known for. Always fighting his battle with a smile on his face, C.J. endured months of transplants and hospital visits before ultimately losing his life to a fungal infection that he acquired during treatments.

C.J.’s mother, Heather Banaszek, hopes that this event will not only honor the memory of her son, but will help other children and families by contributing to safer cancer treatments.

For those interested in participating in the bowling portion of the event, sponsorships are available for $1,000. Additionally, individuals can sign up to bowl for $125.

Registration for the bowling tournament begins at 1pm, with the tournament itself starting at 2pm. Following the bowling bash, a cocktail hour and dinner party—hosted by Lombardi’s Catering, with free refreshments from Lagunitas, Trinchero Family Estates, and Bacardi—will take place at the Petaluma Veterans Memorial Building.  During this time, guests can also participate in live and silent auctions, which include packages from the San Francisco 49ers and San Francisco Giants. Dinner tickets are included in the sponsorship and individual tickets, or can be purchased separately for $100.

To donate an auction item or to receive more information about becoming a sponsor for the Striking Out Childhood Cancer event, contact Heather Banaszek at [email protected].
