Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is pleased to announce the return of the Foundation’s 5K Run/Walk and Kids’ Dash, The Lemon Run, presented by Volvo, on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at 8:00am. The event, in its seventh year, will return to Memorial Hall in Fairmount Park, bringing athletes of all calibers together to support the battle against childhood cancer. Participants are encouraged to register in advance to receive the reduced rates of $35 (5K Runner – timed), $25 (5K Walker – not timed) and $15 per child, ages 10 and under (100 meter Kids’ Dash). Registration is also available on the day of the event, but increased rates will apply.

Running enthusiasts and all supporters of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation are invited to participate or attend the event to raise funds and awareness for the fight against childhood cancer. In addition to the 5K Run/Walk, a Centipede Run has been added this year where runners will be linked together as they run the course. This is a special division of the race where participants are tethered as a unit and will literally be joined together to run in support of the fight against childhood cancer.

The Lemon Run is a family friendly event, which includes a Kids’ Dash as well as the participation of several childhood cancer heroes and their families. Winners in each age group will be recognized as part of an awards ceremony at the end of the race along with top fundraising teams.

As in previous years, participants are encouraged to form a team, bringing together friends and family members to challenge themselves to complete the course and to raise additional funds toward curing kids’ cancer. Several teams honoring hero children are among the early registrants including PwC – Team Asher in memory of Asher Brody who passed away in November from Acute Megakaryoblastic Leukemia; Austin’s Avengers who participate in memory of Austin J. Burke, who lost his life to medulloblastoma in August of 2012 at the age of 4; Team Gavin Strong who will participate in memory of Gavin Morris; and Xander’s Force participating in honor of Xander Nobles who battled rhabdomyosarcoma.

The day’s festivities will also include various forms of entertainment, music and guest speakers. Awards will be given to the fastest male and female runners in the following categories:  Kids’ Dash (10 years and under), 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60+. Additionally, prizes will be awarded to the top individual and team fundraisers.

Check in the day of the event begins at 7am; the Kids’ Dash will start at 8am; and the 5K Run/Walk will begin at 8:30am. Supporters don’t have to live the Philadelphia-area to participate in The Lemon Run. Anyone can be a virtual runner/walker and complete a 5K course in their hometown. This allows participants to be with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation in spirit and help kids with cancer everywhere.

In addition to The Lemon Run Philadelphia, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation’s national athletic program, Team Lemon, continues to thrive with athletes across the country participating in endurance events on behalf of the Foundation. Each race Team Lemon participants run, walk, bike or swim raises funds for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. To learn more about the program and access to sold-out races, visit TeamLemon.org.

About Childhood Cancer

Childhood cancer is a general term used to describe cancer in children occurring regularly, randomly and sparing no ethnic group, socioeconomic class, or geographic region. Childhood cancer extends to over a dozen types of cancers and a countless amount of subtypes. Just a few of these cancer types include: Ewing’s sarcoma, glioma, leukemia, lymphoma, medulloblastoma, neuroblastoma, osteosarcoma, retinoblastoma, rhabdomyosarcoma and Wilm’s tumor.  In the United States, childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children under the age of 15. Every day, approximately 250 kids around the world die from cancer, accounting for 91,250 losing their lives to the disease every year.

About Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $100 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 500 pediatric cancer research projects nationally.
