NEW YORK, NY (November 2011) — On the heels of two wildly successful Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation culinary fundraising events in Philadelphia and Los Angeles, Chef Jonathan Waxman, cookbook author and chef/owner of Barbuto restaurant in Manhattan, will join the childhood cancer crusade by introducing Lemon: NYC, a chef-driven event. The fundraising event is scheduled for Tuesday, December 6, 2011 from 6 to 9PM at Industria Super Studio, located at 775 Washington Street, in New York City.

Joining Waxman will be culinary greats from around the nation including Tom Colicchio, Alex Guarnaschelli, Marcus Samuelsson, Aaron Sanchez, Michael Symon, Marc Vetri and many others as they donate their time and talents to helping Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation in their quest to find a cure for all childhood cancers. Individual tickets to the event are $1,000.

After participating in the Great Chefs Event in Philadelphia and attending L.A. Loves Alex’s Lemonade in Los Angeles, Waxman decided to host a fundraiser in his hometown of New York City. Waxman set out to put his own twist on the event by inviting his culinary friends from NYC and around the country to create one-of-a-kind four-course, family style meals for those attending the event. In addition, a special performance by leading artists from a New York City based ballet company will accompany the meal.

“Alex's Lemonade Stand is a perfect charity for a chef; it’s about raising money for the most noble of causes, working to end children's cancer,” said Jonathan Waxman. “Chefs love to give and what’s more appropriate than cooking and raising money for such an amazing charity. I am proud to be part of Alex's Lemonade Stand.”

“We are honored to have the continuing support of the culinary community as we work to find better treatments and cures for all kids with cancer,” said Liz Scott, Alex’s mom and Vice President of Outreach and Communications for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. “Lemon: NYC is a welcome addition to the series of culinary events benefiting the foundation, and we are thrilled to see how special and unique each event is. We know that with Jonathan Waxman at the helm, Lemon: NYC is sure to be an immense success.”

The culinary community first began supporting Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation in 2006 when acclaimed Chef Marc Vetri and his business partner, Jeff Benjamin, held a small event at The Restaurant School in Philadelphia to raise funds for the cause. In the years that followed, the Great Chefs Event has grown into an international affair attracting the best chefs from around the world to help the cause. In 2011, the event raised over $800,000 and was attended by over 1,200 people.

Galvanized by their experience at the Great Chefs Event, Chef Suzanne Goin along with business partner Caroline Styne and Chef David Lentz, felt ready to partner with their east coast friends and host a Los Angeles event to broaden the reach of Alex’s Lemonade Stand’s fundraising efforts. Over 800 guests turned out in L.A. in 2010, sampling signature dishes of over 20 chefs and raising over $300,000. L.A. Loves Alex’s Lemonade will return for its second annual event on Sunday, November 6, 2011.
