During the Pro Bowl, 49ers linebackers Takeo Spikes and Patrick Willis took some time to join and support Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer.
The foundation celebrated its 10th anniversary during the Pro Bowl by hosting a lemonade stand on Sunday. The family of foundation creator Alexandra “Alex” Scott was joined by Spikes and Willis, as well as David Krichavsky of the NFL Community Relations department, for a lemonade toast to commemorate a decade of battling childhood cancer. The lemonade stand will return for Super Bowl XLIV this weekend at Sun Life Stadium.
In 2000, at the age of 4, Alex Scott (1996-2004) announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. The Foundation has blossomed into a national fundraising movement since her first lemonade stand. With thousands of volunteers across the country carrying on her legacy of hope, it is now celebrating its 10th anniversary. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $30 million towards fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 125 research projects nationally.
49ers players have been involved in many great charitable causes over the past season and seeing two fan favorites getting involved in something like this is always refreshing. For more information, please visit their website.
