A Voorhees man is channeling his inner Neanderthal for a unique way to fight cancer.

Rob Jensen, a 43-year-old U.S. Army veteran and attorney, decided to forgo shaving for an entire year, all in an effort to raise funds and awareness for the fight against childhood cancer.

In 2013, Jensen learned his friend Mitchell Dameshek’s 10-year-old daughter Emilia was on her third bout with cancer. The girl was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma — a rare form of bone cancer that affects approximately 3 in 1 million children.

With a 5-year-old son of his own, Jensen wanted to help any way he could, even if the tragedy didn’t directly affect his family.

In 2014, he participated in a 5K run to raise money for the Dameshek family, but it didn’t seem like enough. He thought he could do more than a 30-minute run.

It was then that he came up with the idea for “Rob’s Caveman Year to Fight Pediatric Cancer,” a year-long fundraiser that would raise money for Alex’s Lemonade Stand.
