Walgreens in Flemington will host Alex's Lemonade Stand to help fund cancer research, assist an employee of the chain
FLEMINGTON — Walgreens on Route 31 will host an Alex’s Lemonade Stand Day from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14. Half of the proceeds will go to Alex’s Lemonade Stand, and the other half will be given to the family of a Walgreens employee who recently lost his son to leukemia.
Will Lehmacher was the Walgreens store manager in Florham Park when his son Mikey was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. The Lehmacher family moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where Mikey was hospitalized until this year. On July 19, 5-year-old Mikey passed away.
His family is behind on their mortgage, medical and other bills.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand began in 2000 when 4-year-old Alexandra Scott decided to start a lemonade stand in her front lawn to raise money to cure children with cancer. She held lemonade sales every year until she died from neuroblastoma at age 8 in 2004.
A foundation was formed and it’s raised more than $30 million to fund more than 125 research projects annually.
The Flemington Walgreens will compete with 88 other Walgreens in New Jersey to see who can raise the most money and give the most attention to Alex’s Lemonade Stand.
