Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer

Local youth and their dads raise funds in the battle against childhood cancer

In their continuing efforts to fight back against childhood cancer, over 200 local children and their dads will sell lemonade during the Adventure Guides & Princesses 5th Annual Alex’s Lemonade Stand Lemonade for Life fundraiser on Saturday, May 22, 2010 from 2 – 6PM, at Publix Supermarkets throughout the Jacksonville, Jacksonville Beach, Orange Park, Ponte Vedra, and St. Augustine area. The fundraiser, which is known as an Alex’s Lemonade Stand Grand Stand, will take place at over 25 area Publix stores.

The Lemonade for Life fundraiser first began when a local Jacksonville family, whose daughter battled cancer, decided to raise funds and awareness for the disease. Lina Rak was diagnosed with Stage IV neuroblastoma, an often deadly pediatric cancer, ten years ago.  As a survivor, Lina’s goal is to inspire families with similar experiences and to raise money to support them during their challenging times. Though the Rak family has since moved out of the area, the YMCA Adventure Guides and Princesses continue their mission. Lemonade for the stands has graciously been donated by Pepsi.

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). 2010 marks 10 years since 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of volunteers across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $30 million towards fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 125 research projects nationally.
