In addition to our website, ALSF hopes to provide materials for this program to underserved communities via a targeted mailing. Those children, many whom face financial, academic and behavioral challenges, may not be aware that that they too possess the power to make a difference.
Several schools in underprivileged communities have participated with ALSF in the past. One teacher from Philadelphia had this to say about her school’s experience:
“So many times we hear that because you are of a certain income level, you cannot make a difference. But this exercise illustrated the true nature of philanthropy and how just one idea can become a hit if you have the passion and determination- just like Alex!”
Another teacher stated this after hearing about ALSF at a conference:
“A teacher from West Philadelphia told us that she had her students who’ve had failing grades do a report on Alex Scott. Her story made huge changes in the students’ outlooks and behaviors.”
We believe that a targeted effort within underserved communities will multiply those affects, further motivating these children, increasing their self esteem and helping them overcome obstacles. By reaching out to schools within those communities, we hope to inspire, educate, and empower those who need it most.
