The Suckstorf family always made donations online to a friend’s lemonade stand. Then, Tara Suckstorf decided she wanted to take her four young sons to donate at a local stand and was shocked to find out that none existed in her corner of Nebraska!

Tara and her crew took up the challenge and started the first Lemonade Days stand in Lincoln, Nebraska. In the past two years, the Lincoln Lemon-aiders have raised over $5,000 for childhood cancer research. They’ve done it by engaging local businesses and spreading the word through social media.

Their annual stand is held at a local grocery store who also donates cookies. Several other businesses get involved and donate lemonade and soda, sponsor t-shirts and help spread the word.

The best part, though, is how much the family enjoys being together to raise money to help find cures.

“It feels really good to help someone else and carry on Alex's vision and know that maybe one day, thanks in part to those cups of lemonade we shared, the picture of a child with cancer may look different. Most importantly, if all the hours we put in can keep one family from the unimaginable, it's more than worth it,” said Tara.

Tara’s Tip to Stand Hosts: Don’t get discouraged if you ask for support and get turned down! Try again. The Lincoln Lemon-aiders have several local businesses involved in their stand and it all happened, because they asked!
