Q: What is The Million Mile?
A: The Million Mile is a month-long challenge organized by ALSF during September (Childhood Cancer Awareness Month). The goal is to collectively run, walk and/or ride one million miles to raise funds and increase awareness of the need to support childhood cancer research.
Q: Where will The Million Mile take place?
A: This is a worldwide event! You can run, walk or ride wherever your feet, bike or wheelchair take(s) you.
Q: When does The Million Mile start and end?
A: You will be able to log your miles from September 1 through September 30, 2020, but fundraising begins when registration opens.
Q: Why are we doing this?
A: To raise the profile of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and raise money to find better treatments and cures for childhood cancer. A million miles sounds like a crazy goal – some people might think it is unattainable. Sometimes, to get the world to notice, you have to be a little crazy! But Alex showed us that you can reach seemingly unattainable goals.
Q: Who was Alex?
A: Alex is the inspiration behind Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF). Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004) was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare form of childhood cancer, before her first birthday. At the age of 4, Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Later, she set an ambitious fundraising goal - $1 million – and with the help of other kids and adults, she reached it!
Q: How do I explain The Million Mile to someone who doesn’t know anything about it?
A: During the month of September (Childhood Cancer Awareness Month), ALSF has a goal to collectively run, walk and/or ride one million miles to raise funds and increase awareness of the need to support childhood cancer research. It’s easy to join in on the fun, all you have to do is register and then get moving so we can get one step closer to our goal!
Q: Does it cost anything to sign up?
A: There is no fee to sign up and no minimum fundraising requirement.
Q: Who can sign up?
A: Anyone! You can even log your pets’ mileage!
Q: When does registration for The Million Mile close?
A: Registration for The Million Mile will remain open throughout the month of September, however, you will only be able to log miles from September 1, 2020 through September 30, 2020.
Q: Can I walk, run and cycle, or do I have to pick one way of accumulating miles?
A: You can do one or a combination of all three!
Q: Can I log my miles before September?
A: No, logging miles will begin September 1. For instructions on how to log your miles throughout the month of September, visit our Mile Tracking page.
Q: Do I have to participate every day or for the entire month of September?
A: You can run, walk or cycle as often as you like! All your steps count – even the ones you take around the grocery store when you go food shopping.
Q. What is a Gold Medal Miler?
A: Gold Medal Milers are individuals who commit to walk/run 100 miles or cycle 300 miles, and raise $2000 for ALSF and childhood cancer research.
Q: How do I start my own team for The Million Mile?
A: To start your own team, click on the “Register Now” button at TheMillionMile.org. You’ll be offered the option of creating a team or joining an existing team. Under the “Create a new team” option, enter the name of your new team. From there, you will be able to register and create a team page andinvite other team members to join.
Q: How do I join an existing team?
A: To join an existing team, click on the “Register Now” button on the main The Million Mile page and search for your team from the Join a Team step. A list should then pop up with the list of The Million Mile teams that match your search. If you aren't able to find your team, click on Advanced Search to take you to our Find a Stand/Event search. Or, you can go to the team's page and click on the "Join the team!" button.
Q: How do I invite people to join my team?
A: You can invite people to join your team by sharing your page through the Invite Friends and Share this page section of your team fundraising page. You can share through Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or e-mail.
Q: Can I add people to my team?
A: Yes! From your fundraising page "Members" tab, you can click on "Add a member who does not have an email address" and enter their name. This will not create an account for that person and they will not have all the same advantages as someone who registered for the team on their own.
Q. What are the advantages of registering on my own over being added to the team by someone else?
A: Participants who register themselves can add anyone else to the team, get their own personal fundraising pages and receive all team messages through email notifications. Participants who are added without email addresses or accounts cannot have offline donations credited to them (such as mailed check donations), do not receive team messages automatically, do not have a personal fundraising page that they can share for donations on their behalf and cannot log their own mileage.
Q: When can I start fundraising?
Q: How can I get people to donate to my fundraising page?
A: It’s easy to share your fundraising page with your family and friends through email or social media like Facebook. People can donate by going to your fundraising page and clicking the “Donate” button on your page. People can also donate by sending a check through the mail and specifying your event ID. All donors who write checks receive a thank you note and receipt from us. Make checks payable to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.
Q: Is there a fundraising minimum?
A: No, there is not, but we ask each individual or team to try to obtain pledges per mile or donations to support their team.
Q: How do I update my fundraising goal?
A: If you are an individual or team captain you are able to update your fundraising goal. First you will need to log into your account at AlexsLemonade.org with your username and password. Next, click on your Million Mile fundraising page, then click on the yellow gear icon, next to your team's fundraising goal. Click on "Change" and update your goals!
Q: What if I don’t hit my goals?
A: Don’t worry, just do your best!
Q: How can I set up a lemonade stand?
A: Setting up a stand is easy! Visit our Plan A Lemonade Stand page to learn how and be sure to register your stand as an official Alex's Lemonade Stand.
Q: What other types of events can I hold?
A: Be creative! You can host a fundraising event that suits your talents and resources. Any event from a jewelry sale to a bake off can be turned into an Alex’s event! Visit our Get Involved section for more ideas.
Q: Can I print my own banner or sign using your logos?
A: Yes, we encourage stand hosts to design their own banners, flyers or signs and incorporate our logos.
Q: Do you have a letter on foundation letterhead that I can send to businesses for their support?
A: Yes we do! Email us at [email protected], or contact your coach with the specifics, and we’ll be happy to email or fax you a letter on our letterhead.
Q: How do I send in donations?
A: It is easy to send in donations, just write a check or money order equal to all of the cash donations, and send it to:

Q: My friend/family member sent a check and I do not see this donation listed on my fundraising page, why is this?
A: Checks sent through the mail can take up to four weeks to appear on your fundraising page.
