Seven years ago, Lily, Julia and Phoebe hosted a stand, along with friends, in order to raise money for research into cures for pediatric cancer. We had recently lost a beautiful young child in our community. Her parents were, and remain, friends of ours. As the years went by, the girls continued to host a lemonade stand during the first weekend in June. What a way to kick off the summer, celebrate Lily's birthday and contribute to the community. This spring, about one month ago, we received devastating, horrible news. Our lovely friends re-entered the cancer world when they received a leukemia diagnosis for their young son (who, incidentally, is Lily's birthday buddy). While they have been forced to jump headfirst back into the dizzying world of chemotherapy, optimism and business-as-usual at all costs, our commitment to do everything we can has been re-newed.
