My second Alex's Lemonade Stand in honor of Laura Stiles' memory, and in honor of Andrew Goodell. Neuroblastoma is a cancerous tumor that develops from the adrenal glands or nerve tissue. This disease is deadly for children, and 70% of neuroblastoma patients die. Laura Stiles, a Boonton Township resident, was one of those 70%. To many people, that name is just that, a name. The person reading this may or may not have known her, but to those who did, she was very special. A girl who was thoughtful, perceptive, kind, and gentle, strong in the face of a challenge, quiet in nature, but friendly. She loved music and drawing. She could make a person smile. Laura was taken from her loved ones during her middle school career, and would have been a freshman in college today. Her family, friends, and even others who maybe did not know her, like myself, mourn. And she is not the only loved one who has died from this horrible disease. Two years ago I was the recipient of the Laura Stiles Principal's award at Rockaway Valley School. Being honored with this award, I was made aware of this disease, and I want to help those who's lives have been impacted.
At my first Alex's Lemonade Stand, during June 2013, I met a boy named Andrew Goodell and his mother. When Mrs. Goodell was pregnant, the doctors told her that there was something wrong with her unborn child. Later on they found out that "something" was Neuroblastoma. Life as they had known it was over. Over the years there have been many tests and treatments. Now, at the age of 6, Andrew has had no evidence of disease since December of 2010, but routinely goes for scans. At any moment he could be told of a relapse and be thrown back into treatment. His loved ones continue to pray.
I made this website to raise money to help people fighting the battle against neuroblastoma, our innocent children and their families. Please donate, and help.
