When
September is childhood cancer awareness month. The whole month is dedicated to spreading knowledge of children fighting cancer. ALSF was started by a heroic child named Alex who raised over a million dollars for children's cancer research before loosing her life to neuroblastoma. Alex was a child and even in the hardest battle of her life ,she dedicated her time to helping others. She is a very courageous and inspiring individual. Her dedication to find a cure is a symbol of how strong the human spirit is. In honor of Alex, Howie and all the children fighting all types of cancer the ALSF has created Alex's Million Mile. Our family are taking part in this event and putting a team together to help raise money for childhood cancer research and spread awareness of pediatric cancer for the whole month of September . The event is simple. Anyone can join the team . There will be a $10 dollar buy in for adults and a $5 dollar buy in for kids. All buy in funds go directly to cancer research. For example we get ten team members and that's 100 dollars which equal 2 hours of research. Every member for the month of September will set a mileage goal for themselves. All you have to do is track your walk/run /cycling miles. You can track it with a step counter or an app on your phone. If neither of these are an option for you. You can make a rough calculation. EVERY mile counts whether its 1 mile or 100 miles. Along the way if you choose to tell others and help raise additional donations that is great but it is not required. The goals of this event is to raise money for childhood cancer research, spread awareness of pediatric cancer and engage in healthy activities . -Here's the facts- *46 children in the world will be diagnosed with cancer everyday and 7 will loose the battle. *Pediatric cancer government funding is at an all time low. *Only 3.8% of government funding goes to pediatric cancer research *One hour or research costs 50 dollars.. *One day of research is 400 dollars *One week of research is 2000 dollars *100% percent of all donations to ALSF goes directly to childhood cancer research *ALSF has directly funded Howe's doctor Julie Parks for research and study trials for children that have been told they have no more options. -Bringing life full circle- As we all know Howe cancer relapsed in July. Before relapse he was given 50/50 odds of survival and now with relapse the odds are even more stacked against him..This was horribly devastating to all of us. As a community we all strive to do anything do bring our ninja home and now we have a chance to help give him better odds. We as a community have all stood behind Howie in every step of his journey. We are more than a community we are family. Lets help the children have a fighting chance at life, The ALSF directly affects our family because they have funded Howe's doctor Julie Parks for research medicines for children that have been told they have no more options. Currently Howe is on a research drug called MLN8237 because his cancer came back even after all standard treatments. These donations and funded research truly give our ninja and all ninjas a fighting chance to live!!!!
