When
In February, I will be running the Disney Princess Half Marathon in honor of my sweet Goddaughter (and a Princess in my eyes) Edie and to raise money for Alex's Lemonade Stand. You see, Edie was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at 6 months old. After many surgeries and rounds of treatment, Edie had the opportunity to participate in a research study at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Today, having just turned 5, Edie is a precious, fun loving, cowboy boot wearing, outgoing little princess. Unfortunately, this family's fight with neuroblastoma was just beginning. Edie's mom Emily began having health challenges when she was pregnant with her second child. They found out that just like Edie, Emily now has neuroblastoma. This summer, at 30 weeks, Emily was taken to Philadelphia to deliver baby Kinsey so she could begin her treatment with the same doctors that are treating Edie. She is only one of two adults being treated for neuroblastoma, typically this type of cancer is only seen in children. Through the help of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, Edie and her family were able to receive emotional and financial support to aid with their treatment. Edie has become one of ALSF's Heroes and now raises money for other children fighting cancer. Because ALSF was able to assist in getting funding for Edie's treatment and it has worked, we are hopeful that the same treatment will work for Emily. I ask for your support as I raise money for ALSF in hopes that other families will be able to receive the support and treatments that my friends have. Every little princess deserves to to grow up without worrying about when to take the next dose of medicine or when they will have to go back to the hospital. Please take a minute to click on the last photo of Edie in the whale dress. This will take you to a video of her talking about ALSF.
