We have exceed 1000 miles and are already over 1100. Way to go Team Declan!! Thank you everyone for joining us, and for remembering that every mile counts!

Today we want to talk a little bit about Alex Scott. Alexandra "Alex" Scott, founder of ALSF, was diagnosed with neuroblastoma just before her first birthday. When Alex was four, she decided to hold a lemonade stand and send the proceeds to doctors to help them find cures for all kids with cancer. Alex passed away at age 8, but not before inspiring us - and the nation! - to join her fight, one cup at a time.

Never underestimate the dreams and plans held by children. Their potential is limitless, even in the face of cancer. We need to do more to extend these beautiful lives. To give them more humane treatment options and, ultimately, the cure.

With love and gratitude,
Megan & Bill

Keep walking, running, cycling, and swimming. You're all doing such an awesome job honoring Declan and all kids affected by childhood cancer. Thank you all for turning your Awareness into ACTION!

Here is a note we received this morning from our follow teammate, Christy: "So on our 8 mile trek yesterday your little man was our inspiration to get thru it! We were really struggling to finish when we started talking about you and Declan and finished her out! Just thought it was worth sharing... loving being part of your team!!!"

It is OUR team, Christy. We would be nearly immobile without the support of Team Declan. Thank you to everyone on OUR team!!

Fact: One in 330 children will be diagnosed with cancer by the time they are 20 years old. This is a staggering statistic! But I feel that it is one we can change. Share what you know. Continue to advocate. Be the voice of the children who have gone to soon, and change the future for those not yet diagnosed.

With love & gratitude,
Megan & Bill

Day 5 of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

A few months into his chemotherapy treatment protocol, Declan's oncologist told us that they were constantly amazed by his energy. He went on to say that they were surprised Declan was even still walking, given the amount of cancer that was wrapped around his spine.

Ever try to tell a three or four year old he can't do something?

Fact: The causes of most childhood cancers are unknown and are not strongly linked to lifestyle or environmental risk factors, unlike many adult cancers.

Day 4 of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Fact: Average age at which children are diagnosed with cancer: 6; average number of years to love, grow, learn, and dream lost to cancer: 71

And those years we could save? They're the years when a kid could grow up, marry, have children of their own; create something beautiful the world has never seen; or even discover a cure for cancer.

Awareness = Funding = Cures

With love and gratitude,
Megan & Bill

Fact: Childhood Cancer occurs regularly, randomly, and spares no ethnic group, socioeconomic class, or geographic region.

Today's Goal: Recruit a friend to walk, run, or ride with you today.

Awareness = Funding = Cures

With love and gratitude,
Megan & Bill

Fact: Worldwide, 175,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year. And in the United States, more children die of childhood cancer than other other disease.

Take this fact and share it with as many people as you can today.
Awareness = Funding = Cures

Megan & Bill

PS - Awesome kick-off yesterday, Team Declan. Nearly 150 miles down so far! Let's keep up this collective momentum.

Today, we want you to feel buoyed and energized by this month-long adventure that lays before us. Thanks to the t-shirts worn by our buddies Grant & Reese on our Day 1 ride this morning, we are reminded that, when hearing how even heroes have bad days, Declan's response was, "Not me." After each of his three brain surgeries, Declan just wanted to know, "What we were going to play today?"

So be a four year old at heart this month. No bad days. Play. Laugh. Continue to be inspired.

Do it for Declan, do it for yourself, do it for the 46 children who are diagnosed with cancer each day, do it for the seven who die from cancer each day. Put your whole heart in it. You ARE making a difference for children affected by childhood cancer.

With gratitude,
Megan & Bill
