In 2014, Grandview First Graders held a lemonade stand for childhood cancer research after completing an economics unit, which included many reading & writing sequencing activities and math/money lessons. One of our small group books introduced us to Alex's story, and the class decided to hold a stand like Alex did. We decided that if everyone in the school purchased one glass at $0.25 a cup, we would raise enough to fund one hour of research ($50.00), so that was our goal. We were astonished and touched when we counted our grand total...and it was over $300.00!! This year, we would love to raise $400.00 and fund one full day of research, with a new group of caring firsties, ready to take a "Stand" :)
