We have been fortunate to benefit in life and love. Creating our registry was challenging; between the recommended “must have” checklists, the unsettling guilt of being spoiled by “desired” items, and our cognizant minds emphasizing the difference between needs and wants! Jerm and I are extremely thankful to be able to say that we truly don't "need" anything, except your continued love and support!
Children with cancer really do “need” so much more than any item on our registry could ever be worth. We have decided to include a priceless alternative to the lavish material gifts listed on our registry, in the form of a monetary donation to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF). This amazing foundation raises awareness and money to fund childhood cancer research. Founded by a remarkable sick child dedicated to helping other sick children, Alex Scott envisioned a lemonade stand that would raise more money to facilitate the doctor’s work. The federal government’s disproportionate cancer research funding only allocates less than 5% of the total budget for childhood cancer. These children have innocently fallen prey to the monstrosities of cancer; many before they are even old enough to realize they are being skimped out on. Their value has been reprehensibly depreciated to a trivial 5%, yet their families sacrifice more than 100% of their essence in the hopes that a cure will be found. They spend umpteen weeks complying with clinical protocols, countless hours researching the latest findings, endless minutes corresponding with the oncologist, and infinite seconds yearning for a miracle.
Miracles come in the form of cures, which require unrestricted research through extensive funding. ALSF has raised more than $100 million dollars, funding more than 475 cutting-edge research projects exclusively for childhood cancer. Their mission is simple- raise money for and awareness of childhood cancer causes, especially research into new treatments and cures.
Should you be contemplating a hugely expensive overblown gesture in the form of a gift to your favorite well-deserving couple, a donation to our ALSF fundraising endeavors would truly please us to no end. Any donation, regardless of the amount, is instrumental in securing the essential research that can influence a childhood cancer hero’s destiny. A donation of $50 will fund one hour of research, $400 will fund one day, and $2000 can fund a full week. We are carrying on Alex’s inspiring legacy by raising money to fight childhood cancer. As Alex’s life showed, our small contributions can make a bigger impact.
The greatest gifts Jeremy and I can receive are your ongoing friendships and your presence at our wedding. The greatest gift a child with cancer can receive is the miracle of a cure. Please help kids and their families by providing desperately needed hope!
