My name is Chase Metzgar and I am 7 years old. I wanted to do a lemonade stand to help raise money for childhood cancer research since last summer. My brother, Shane, was diagnosed with stage 4 alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma at 8 months old in March 2014. He fought a brave 1 year and 2 day battle until he passed on March 30, 2015 at 19 months old.
Recently, we also lost a dear friend ours and Shane's, Antonio Santos. Antonio was a tenacious 18 year old, who bravely fought Ewing sarcoma since the age of 15. He always wore a smile and my brother loved seeing him in clinic. He would always try to grab his attention and then pretend like he didn't. He loved Antonio and so did myself and Ella (mom and dad too).
Shane and Antonio were treated and cared for at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. We are grateful to all the doctors, nurses and child life specialists who took care of Shane and Antonio, (they shared the same oncologist) guided mom and dad and helped myself and my sister Ella cope with our life change.
My family is determined to make a change in honor Shane with Shane's Future Days. I want to do my part and help give back too. The money raised from the stand will go to CHOP to help further rare pediatric cancer research.
Please help kids and their families by providing desperately needed hope! Thanks for your support!
