In Sept 2012, Aidan Knox was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma bone cancer. He endured intense chemotherapy and radiation treatment at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh for almost a year. In late August of 2013 we received the joyous news of clear post treatment scans and Aidan had his port removed and returned to school and life as he previously knew it. This September will mark 2 years of clear scans for Aidan and part of our celebration will be giving back to the childhood cancer community through our family lemonade stand and yard sale. Every day in the US, approximately 46 kids are diganosed with childhood cancer and 7 children will lose their lives. Despite these overwhelming statistics, our federal government only allocates 4% of its federal cancer research budget to pediatric cancer and in the last twenty years only two drugs have been developed specifically for pediatric cancer. That leaves the bulk of fundraising for research in the hands of Charity organizations like Alex's lemonade stand. We are proud to raise money for this organization in hopes of more research and awareness for childhood cancer.
