We are excited to share our plans for another school-wide service project! Our school is going to host our third lemonade stand to raise money for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. This foundation gives money to help find a cure for childhood cancer. We’ve all been affected by cancer in some way in our lives, so this service project takes on a personal meaning to each of us. This service project is part of a national contest called “The Great Lemonade War.” Students and teachers are invited to read a book called, “The Lemonade War” by Jacqueline Davies. In this story, a brother and a sister have competing lemonade stands to see who can raise the most money. Jacqueline Davis got together with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation to encourage schools and organizations to read the book and take on their own lemonade stand challenge!
We have entered the contest again this year, and are eager to get selling! Last year our lemonade stand was able to raise $1,000 in only one week! This year’s goal is $1,500. Our lemonade stand will open from March 3-7. Along with lemonade, which you can purchase for 50 cents a cup, we will sell baked lemon goodies!
We would be grateful for any baked lemon goodies that your family would like to buy and donate to our cause beginning NOW. We’ll also need lots of cups!
For more information, including videos about the cause, you can visit this website we created: http://thelemonadewar.wikispaces.com/. From this website, you can visit our fundraising page, where you can donate online. Please share this cause with your friends and family who might also be interested in supporting us. Our stand doesn’t open until March 3, but online donations are open now through April 11.
We’re excited to do something worthwhile to help others, and teach our students about being citizens of our community. Thanks in advance for your support!
