September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month (along with several other cancers). Having a child with cancer is one of the most painful and difficult situations a family can face. One in 330 children will be diagnosed with cancer by the time they turn 20. It's the leading cause of death from disease in children under 15.
Despite this, less than 5% of the federal government’s total funding for cancer research is dedicated to childhood cancers each year. These children are our future, and yet just 5% of these funds are dedicated to childhood cancer. It's a very low number. That's why these fundraising groups, like ALSF, are so very important.
As parents, we worry about the health of our children every day, and hope and pray that nothing comes our way that we can't beat. My hope is that with advancements in medicine and technology, we can come closer to wiping out pediatric cancer in the not so distant future.
While there are many organizations that collect funds to advance research in this area, I chose ALSF. ALSF was started by a young cancer patient nicknamed Alex who chose to raise money to help all children with cancer, as she fought her own battle. What a beautiful little soul she must have to want to help others while fighting herself. I chose ALSF to support and honor her memory, and keep her efforts going.
In exchange for your $10 donation to help fight pediatric cancer, I'm offering 1/2 dozen cupcakes. Every additional $10 gets an additional 1/2 dozen. You'll have your choice of either lemon cupcakes with buttercream frosting, vanilla cupcakes with caramel buttercream frosting, or dark chocolate cupcakes with either dark chocolate frosting or mint frosting. Of course, each cupcake will be topped with a gold cancer awareness ribbon made of candy. Cupcakes will be delivered or can be picked up within 4 weeks of your donation. Sorry for those from afar, cupcakes do not travel well, but next time you're in Maine cupcakes are on me!
Thank you in advance for your donation.
